19 Feb Mexico & Magic
Wow and wow! Not sure what else I can say… been doing some scouting for trips to Mexico and I was blown away by the charm of Guadalajara, in the justly famous state of Jalisco. A direct – and quick – flight from Chicago, the Guadalajara area is the birthplace of a lot of quintessentially Mexican cultural touchstones, including mariachis and tequila!
Despite being Mexico’s second biggest city, the people were friendly and approachable like the denizens of a small town might be. Prediction: in the next 10 years, Guadalajara will be an “it” destination, with all the good and bad that entails. In the meantime, I am diligently doing my research (eating and drinking) my way through the jewel of Jalisco!
I, just by pure circumstance, discovered that there are a series – well over a hundred – of villages called “Pueblos Magics” that are just that… magic. Each one is different and charming in a unique way. I was fortunate enough to visit 3 during my time in Jalisco: Tonala, Tlaquepaque, and Tequila. Yes, THAT tequila! As I visit more, I will tell you more.
