Now Is When The Real Fun Starts!

Okay, we know… it’s just early November and we’ve already seen snow in Chicago! And it has happened more than once, alas. Well, don’t let that scare you away from the truly cool (pun intended) things going on here in November. From the Christkindl Market to the great theater and immersive art events, November in Chicago is a showstopper!

Let’s begin with one of our faves, Hebru Brantley. One of Chicago’s most talented pop artists, his work has attracted the attention of celebrities such as George Lucas, Jay Z, and LeBron James, and he has just opened an immersive exhibit of his work called Nevermore Park, a full on hour long journey of installation and tactile experience! Combine this with the awesome – and rare – Andy Warhol exhibition at the Art Institute, and it is indisputable: Chicago is the best place to see pop art this winter. If you are short on cash (and long on time) Illinois residents can visit the Art Institute after 5 PM on Thursday and skip the admission fee. Be forewarned though, the “free lunch” lines to get in can get kind of long.

November also sees the return of a Chicago tradition, the Christkindl Market at Daley Center. A traditional (or so I’m told) German Christmas market, this is ground zero for festive lights, good (really good!) food and the coolest ornaments in the Loop since Marshall Fields… just be sure to visit during the week or early on the weekend. It gets crowded beyond comfort on weekend evenings, but maybe you like that!

Of course Chicago Weekend Explorers has you covered for holiday fun! Asking yourself “What to do this weekend in Chicago?” On December 7th, join us for another craft brewery tour to Milwaukee! Take in the ingenious Miller Beer caves, caverns excavated for storage and refrigeration in the days before commercial refrigeration was popular and cheap. We’ll also take a guided tour (with some of the most well-informed tour guides you’ll ever meet) of the Pabst Mansion, and wrap things up at Lakefront Brewery. Lakefront Brewery is not only Milwaukee’s most spirited and cheeky brewski tour, it also consistently ranks as one of the most popular brewery tours in the United States. Come see why! Tours depart from the South Loop and include transport, admission to three separate tours, and a gourmet cup of coffee or tea!
